Dr. Farber has had his fair share of trauma and each time emerged mentally and physically stronger. At the age of thirteen he was diagnosed with arthritis. But this didn’t stop him from competing in several different sports including track and field, long-distance running and martial arts. At age thirty he had a recurrence of the arthritis that left him bedridden and unable to sit or walk. Eventually with the help of an excellent rheumatologist and a healthy mind, body, spirit and diet, he was able to fully recover without any limitations. Dr. Farber later suffered a blown-out lumbar disc and lost muscle control and sensation in both his legs. He underwent urgent back surgery and afterwards was told that he may be permanently disabled. He completed a spinal cord rehabilitation program and was able to recover the ability to walk without assistance and eventually went back to competing and winning martial arts tournaments. A few years later, following a car accident, Dr. Farber had a compressed spinal cord in his neck and lost muscle control and sensation in both his arms. This time he underwent a cervical spine fusion and again went through spinal cord rehabilitation to fully regain his strength and mobility. Today he is fully active, can do the splits and spend two hours on an elliptical machine at full incline (with a smile on his face).
As one of many people to survive a long divorce, not only has Dr. Farber emerged happy and healthy but as a single father he was able to maintain fabulous relationships with his three daughters (one of whom was even a teenager). He is now happily remarried and lives with his five children and beautiful wife and partner, Susan.
